Dear parents and carers

Thanks so much for coming into class on Friday. It was a lovely morning. Also thanks for being understanding of me at pick up and drop off. I am still struggling with one or two parents and carers. I will learn all your faces soon, so bear with me!

Many thanks

Mr. Ellis

Reading books

The children have taken home their first reading book today. We will change the books again on Tuesday so please make sure your child brings the book back in their book bag on Tuesday otherwise we won’t be able to give them another one. We really can’t afford to lose books so we are asking the children to look after them well and return them on time.
Please let us know how your child gets on reading the book by making some notes with them in the reading record.

It’s really important that when your child reads the book to you they use their phonic knowledge to work out unfamiliar words. If they get stuck it’s best not to tell them what the word is straight away but see if they can work it out by sounding it out and blending, using the pictures or reading the rest of the sentence to see what the word could be.

Some children will struggle with reading which is absolutely normal. Some children really won’t enjoy reading either, also normal! It’s important to make it fun and take the pressure off. If you find that your child is reluctant you could share read the book by taking turns to read a page. Show them that you find some words hard to read too. Model how you would sound it out or use the pictures to help you.

Most importantly, have fun! Let us know if you have any issues or questions.

Have a lovely weekend!

Mr. Ellis and Ms. D.

Open morning

A reminder that all parents and carers are invited to come into classrooms on Friday morning. This will be an opportunity for you to visit your child’s classroom and find out more about the curriculum for the coming year.

We are very much looking forward to seeing as many parents as possible, but if you are unable to attend, a copy of the curriculum newsletter with all the information on will be available on the class blog.

On Friday the school gates will be open from 8.30am closing at 9.20am.

We will be having a formal parents evening on Thursday 21 November.

PTA Coffee Morning

Straight after the open classroom session the PTA is organising a coffee morning to welcome new parents and carers to Rosendale.

The coffee morning is taking place in the main school hall from 9.15am.  The coffee morning is an opportunity to see what’s on the school calendar for the coming year, share ideas for events and fundraising and get to know your fellow parents.

Members of our office staff will be selling cakes at the coffee morning to raise money for Cancer Research.  The office are participating in the Race for Life on Clapham Common on Sunday morning.  If you would like to sponsor them they have a sponsorship form at the office!  Many thanks.
